Sara Ruiz studierte Viola da Gamba bei Itziar Atutxa und Pere Ros in Madrid und bei Ventura Rico in Sevilla. Es folgten weitere Studien bei Lorenz Duftschmid an der Musikhochschule Trossingen und von 2004 bis 2008 bei Vittorio Ghielmi in Lugano. Darüber hinaus studierte sie Kammermusik bei Rolf Lislevand und besuchte Meisterkurse bei Jordi Savall, Philippe Pierlot und Christophe Coin. Außerdem absolvierte sie einen Masterstudiengang in RIP (Rhetorically Informed Performance).
Sie konzertierte unter anderem mit dem Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, al Ayre Español, Armonico Tributo Austria, La Cetra Baroque Orchestra, La Grande Chapelle in Europa und Südamerika. 2006 gewann sie den dritten Preis und den Sonderpreis für die beste Interpretation eines Werkes von Karl Friedrich Abel beim internationalen Gambenwettbewerb „Bach-Abel“ in Köthen. Ihr erstes Soloalbum "La voix de la viole" mit dem Ensemble La Bellemont, das der Musik von Marin Marais gewidmet ist, erhielt begeisterte Kritiken. Ihre Aufnahmen der Suiten von François Couperin und der 12 Fantasien von G.P. Telemann sind in Vorbereitung.
Sie ist Mitglied von Violanet, einem europäischen Netzwerk für Viola da Gamba, zusammen mit Gambisten wie Marianne Muller, Mieneke van der Velden, Vittorio Ghielmi und Bettina Hoffmann. Seit 2018 leitet sie das Consort de Violas da Gamba der Universität von Salamanca. Sie hat Masterclasses und Kurse in Polen, Italien, Frankreich, Österreich und Portugal gegeben.
Gegenwärtig verbindet sie ihre Lehrtätigkeit am Conservatorio Superior de Vigo mit einer intensiven Konzerttätigkeit und arbeitet als Lehrerin mit La Orquesta Son das Flores zusammen, einem Projekt, das Musik als Instrument für soziale und persönliche Veränderungen in einem benachteiligten Viertel von Vigo einsetzt.

In 2006 she won the third prize and the special prize for the best interpretation of a work by Karl Friedrich Abel at the international viola da gamba competition "Bach-Abel" in Köthen. Her first solo album "La voix de la viole" with the ensemble La Bellemont, dedicated to the music of Marin Marais, received enthusiastic reviews. Her recordings of the suites of François Couperin and the 12 fantasies of G.P. Telemann are in preparation.

She currently combines her teaching at the Conservatorio Superior de Vigo with an intense concert activity, collaborating as a teacher with La Orquesta Son das Flores, a project that uses music as a tool for social and personal change in a disadvantaged neighborhood of Vigo.
